From HAT to series hardware — custom variants in days

BE-IIS HATs are a fast way to get a real industrial interface running on a Raspberry Pi. Connect the HAT, install the Linux support, and start testing the actual application.

But a HAT is not always the final series product.

Your product may need a different PCB outline, another connector, a different supply voltage, more or fewer channels, additional isolation, another protection concept, or only part of the functionality of the original HAT.

That is not a problem.

The HAT is already a proven starting point

A custom version does not have to start with a blank schematic.

The important work is already there: the interface concept, component selection, power supply, protection, PCB experience, bring-up, and Linux integration. The existing HAT can therefore be used as a reference design for the product-specific version.

Typical adaptations include:

• different PCB dimensions and mounting points,
• customer-specific connectors and pinout,
• different input voltage or power supply,
• more or fewer interfaces or channels,
• modified isolation and protection,
• removal of functions that are not needed,
• integration of additional circuitry,
• integration into an existing customer PCB or carrier board.

Depending on the scope, a first adapted hardware design can often be created within days rather than months.

The same approach also works when the HAT is only used for evaluation and the final design must become a dedicated industrial board for small-series or series production.
